Christmas Bird Count!

  • Woodland Park 212 Parkview Street Houston, TX, 77009 United States (map)

There’s no regular monthly survey for December, but there's an opportunity to participate in the annual Christmas Bird Count for the Central Houston area on Monday 12/18 at 7:30am, right in Woodland Park!

Prepare to show off your birding prowess by participating in the Central Houston Christmas Bird Count on December 18! Initiated in 1900, the Christmas Bird Count is an early winter bird census where thousands of volunteers participate in community science by going out and counting birds. CBC data is used in hundreds of analyses, peer-reviewed publications, and government reports. Nationally, the Christmas Bird Counts occur from December 14 - January 5 every year.

The Central Houston area is broken into 5 areas. Woodland park is area 5. ALL skill levels are welcome to participate! and our area 5 is easy to navigate and the day starts at Woodland Park! If you are interested in participating or have questions please contact Mike or Laura Bradham mikebradham@gmail.comlauraebradham@gmail.com   They will be leading area 5 this year.

And don't forget to get outside and go birding! This time of year is sooo enjoyable! No experience is required!!! Please bring binoculars if you have them, and wear shoes and long pants that might get muddy.

Thanks to Mary Goldsby, exceptional birder and long-time supporter and friend of Woodland Park -who is already looking forward to our next Bird Survey of the new year on Jan 20, 2024
