Join us on Sunday May 15th, at 9:30 AM for a guided bike tour highlighting Houston’s fascinating history along White Oak Bayou.

We will meet downtown at Allen’s Landing Park, just below where White Oak Bayou joins Buffalo Bayou. Houston historian and guide Andrew Groocock will lead us at a leisurely pace NW along the bike trail, pausing at significant sites along the way to discuss the surprisingly interesting history that shaped Houston’s early development along this important watercourse. The landscape, people and events that characterized this area are brought into focus with Andrew’s insights, augmented by his use of historical photographs.

The ~2 hour tour will disband at Heights Blvd, where it crosses White Oak Bayou. This is a 3.4 mile one-way / 6.8 mile round-trip ride along the generally level W.O.B. Greenway Trail. Car parking is free downtown on Sundays.

Bio: Originally from England, Andrew has lived in Houston for more than 30 years and considers himself a Houstonian. He is a practicing artist, docent at The Museum of Fine Arts and Houston tour guide.

Andrew served as president of The Professional Tour Guide Association of Houston from 2014-2016 and since 2015 has been a guide on the historical boat tours offered by The Buffalo Bayou Partnership. In 2017 he developed the historical boat tour “From Port to Port” for The Buffalo Bayou Partnership which highlights the history of Buffalo Bayou from Allen’s Landing to the Port of Houston.
