Update on Firefly Field

Dear Woodland Park volunteers, supporters, neighbors, and friends:

The Friends of Woodland Park would like to update our donors and supporters on the progress of Firefly Field. As most of you know our spring fundraising effort was very successful as we achieved our goal by May allowing our sculptor, Dylan Conner, to begin fabrication of the sculpture in June. Please visit the Firefly Field website for an update on the fabrication process as Dylan anticipates completion by the end of the month.

The Friends of Woodland Park are working closely with HPARD (Houston Parks and Recreation Department), HPB (Houston Parks Board), and SWA to provide utilities to the site in the park where the sculpture will be installed. The necessary permits are being obtained and scheduling of contractors is in process. Installation is expected to take place in the fall.

We are currently busy designing the dedication plaque to recognize donors contributions to the project. If you wish to contribute to Firefly Field and would like to be acknowledged permanently at the site of the sculpture (per established guidelines) please be aware that the deadline is September 15, 2017. Visit the Firefly Field website for recognition guidelines and levels plus online donation/snail mail options.

If you have pledged but have not yet followed through you may do so on our website as well. Because we are not in control of the city’s timeline for their piece of the installation, and because of the busy holiday season in November/December, we will plan our formal illumination of the Fireflies celebration/dedication/reception in early 2018. We plan to have an informal community event soon after the installation. We thank all of our supporters for this remarkable sculpture. We are continually amazed by our community and are grateful for your generous support of our vision for a renewed Woodland Park. Any continued support will be manifested in the native plant garden which will surround the sculpture.
